PLEASE NOTE: THE TOURISM SERVICE HAS MOVED TO THE HOGE MOTE
You are standing in front of the Spaniards’ Castle: a motte where a Spanish garrison was stationed in the 16th – early 17th century to keep law and order in the city.
The Spaniards’ Castle was completely rebuilt in the 17th century and came into the possession of the Chapter of St Hermes. In the late 18th century, it was the deanery of the Chapter of St Hermes.
CLOSED FOR INVENTORY
The complex is now part of the Must – Museum of Textiles, showing visitors the impact of the textile industry on the development of the then still small town of Ronse from the mid-19th century onwards. An inventory of the entire collection is currently being made for the city. This part of the museum is therefore closed, but the weaving mill of the Must – Museum of Textiles, just next door, can still be visited. For more information and tickets, contact the tourism service, Toerisme Ronse, at www.visitronse.be.
